Support Clean Air Day

Venson Automotive Solutions has urged businesses to back ‘Clean Air Day’ to help tackle air pollution.

The number of cars eligible for the ‘Plug-In’ car grant increased by over 51% year-on-year in May and new car registrations of hybrids and plug-ins is up more than a third to take a record 5.8% share of the market.

Although the UK has some way to go to achieve its EV aspirations, Venson said that it believes a continued focus on clean air initiatives for UK cities by businesses and local government has played a key role in boosting take up.

As the countdown to Clean Air Day 2018 begins in earnest, Venson is urging businesses to get behind this year’s campaign by asking employees to pledge to walk, cycle or car-share to work on June 21st.

Transport minister Jesse Norman joined Poppy Welch, head of Go Ultra Low, along with other key motor industry experts, at this year’s Hay Festival held in May in Wales, to discuss the future of electric vehicles.  She said: “The Government is committed to meeting our climate change targets and improving air quality, which is why we are investing £1.5bn in support for ultra-low emission vehicles by 2021.  We are working closely with industry to realise these ambitions.”

Poppy Welch, head of Go Ultra Low, added: “Continued collaboration between Government and industry to drive uptake of plug-in cars will play a vital role in achieving shared ambitions of improving air quality and ensuring fuel security.”

Demand for electrified cars reached a record high in 2017, with almost 120,000 alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) hitting UK roads. This represents 34.8% uplift in 2017, compared to the previous year. The trend is proving to be continued as the Government rally’s local councils across the UK to make the most of the £4.5 million funding available through its On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme.

Danielle Tilley, Business Development Director of Venson Automotive Solutions comments, “Experts expect the UK Government to focus on legislation and regulation to reduce the use of diesel vehicles and boost the shift to cleaner vehicles. Whilst the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles is currently proposed for 2040, businesses shouldn’t rest on their laurels, as this date could be brought forward, indeed many specialists predict this will happen.

“Venson is committed to promoting greener fleets and helping businesses make the shift to electric and hybrid vehicles.  By encouraging employees to participate in Clean Air Day businesses will be helping to create greater awareness of the choices available to people which we believe will help to drive change.”
